Re: Connected but no Internet

Hi All

Internet (no Flow) but ADSL lite green or orange or on Right?

1. go to command prompt:

Ping Yahoo.com reply?

you have internet but your dns server may not be the right one on your network adapter

open your network adapter and write down the 2 dns numbers its under properties and tcp/ip adapter

check the dns numbers on your router are they the same if not copy the routers dns numbers to your network adapter settings

Afrihost has changed its dns servers recently and so does telkom occasionally.

google has a dns number that has't changed for a while 8.8.8.8

VOX Telecom is:

Primary DNS
Secondary DNS

These DNS numbers must appear on the settings of your network adapter otherwise you will get SQUAT! internet data flow!

and if your are like me and have a few ISP's then you will be constantly re-typing these numbers in;-)

Try obtain IP address and DNS automatically on your Network Adapter settings and see if that helps if the above info is to Grade 12 for you.

However if you are part of a network the IP address might not allow you access to your server or other peer PC's on the network.

Hi All

Sorry the above message had html errors so this is the correct post:

Re: Connected but no Internet

Same here connected but no Internet. Well it will connect for about 20min then down for +- 3 minutes then connected again.

Eliminated all possible causes:

If you do not do this Telkom threatens you with a call out fee of about R 1080 if it is equipment causing the problem.

1) Installed another router

2) Use ISP account and also Telkom guest account

3) Eliminated the ADSL filter, direct connect

4) Telkom & ISP port resets etc etc etc

Telkom tech runs tests and decides to close call because everthing is clear ???? does not confirm with customer first.

So here we go again, New ref number I insisted that the ref the previous call otherwise the SLA of 6 days start again.

After another 4 days wait a Tech on Saturday 13 Feb 2016 @ about 15:30 calls while I am having a nap, Is your Internet now working, No I dont believe, so what did you do to fix it, can I come out to your place, 20 min later we meet at the location. After much discussion the tech goes and finds the Pole. Everything check and test perfect via remote diagnostics etc. etc.

He climbs up the pole plugs in his test Phone and says to me listen there is a large crackel on the line. Test the spare lines and find a Voltage on the unterminated lines. SNR checks ok Lien Attenuation checks ok ???

He now has to refer it to the cable people. Oh No now another 6 days ??

Very tempted to drop ADSL completely and go LTE but Mobile comms in the area very bad from providers !!!!

So Telkom please fix ADSL and have it running for at least 1 Year please.

No FTTH in the area "Lynnwood Glen"

I endeavor to assist in application of Computer technology where ever I can assist.

Re: Connected but no Internet

I am the latest sucker to fall victim to Telkom's pathetic service. 2 nights ago internet went down and had the exact same problem as everyone else, ADSL syncing at 4mbps but no internet. tried 2 different routers, different ISP accounts, phoned ISP, phoned telkom, but alas, nothing solved the problem. (feels ironic as I am typing this a song from Live is playing "**bleep** Towne") Anybody have any other ideas to try?

Re: Connected but no Internet

Same problem since the 17th Feb and technician keeps sending it to Telkom IT and they keep sending it back to Techie. Been on the phone to Telkom 10times and each time I get a 101 answer that it's my router.. However I told them that I tried 3 different routers with different isp logins AND their own Telkom techie used his router with the guest@ login and did not her internet.

The adsl line syncs, but no connection to the internet and I agree with the techie.. The issue is not the line, but a IT dept issue.

No resolution yet as nobody knows what's going on. Waiting for the almighty specialist to finally switch the exchange on.

Re: Connected but no Internet

Hi all.

After 14days I finally found a manager at one of the Telkom call centers and he knew exactly what it was. The issue is an authentication issue at the exchange. He simply sent an email to the exchange I am linked to and within 2 - 3 hours o had Internet again.

So just ask them to check the authentication at your exchange as that is causing this issue.

Happy surfing!

Re: Connected but no Internet

Hi All,

I have been in this boat since 16 January!  All my devices states connected to internet..but...no access!  I have had:

All passwords and usernames rebooted and reset... 5 times now (with Telkom over the phone...18 h on the phone in the last month and still counting).

Ports reset

The entire set-up wiped and re-installed (by Telkom over the phone)

Faults logged with tech.....6 times.

Faults restored messages within 1 minute of logging the above faults...5 times.

Technicians sent out 6 times...none who has actually ever been here

The problem elevated to tier 2 and 3...whatever the hell that is...all of them soooo puzzled because they can SEE I AM CONNECTEd!!

I have taken my rooter into a Telkom shop.  I works perfectly

I have bought R 2000+ of Vodacom airtime this month on a Vodacom wireless router just to get my work done...by the way all 5 devices connect to and access the internet perfectly on that one.

The first fault was logged on 18 January.....AND TODAY I ACTUALLY RECEIVED MY BILL FOR ADSL!!!! which I never even had.

I do not think they actually know how to solve this problem.  If anyone knows how to do it, please reply.

Or if the answer is to get another service provider, I would really welcome that.
