We can’t help much with service related issues as we’re also customers in the forum ( no telkom support agents here)
As you’ve had reported several line faults over 2 years and Telkom engineer told you VDSL is not available at your address, It seems the quality of your copper line may not support VDSL. (Coverage may be available in your area but would depend on line quality to your address).
Telkom’s technical & sales depts don’t seem to be interfacing properly re what your line supports, so try messaging details of the issues & any refs you’ve been given to a Telkom media support team , also include a copy of your router stats if you can . They usually attend quickly with proper response and feedback.
Maybe they’ll need to reset the port to ADSL to restore best speed your line will sync at.
Yes would definitely change to fibre as soon as you can ! We migrated last year from slow ADSL when Telkom ( Openserve) fibre was ready in our complex - very happy and zero issues for 8 months since.
