Slow Internet speed

About a ago we got an ADSL line installed in our house, for the first week our internet was really good we ran at 50ms ping, 3.5Mbps download and 0.4Mbps upload but in the second week our internet has started to become very slow we went down to a ping of +300ms, 0.9Mbps download and 0.1Mbps upload it takes up to 20min to download a 15mb file. We've Logged up to 10 faults with telkom but every time they just reset our ports the internet goes back to normal for 3-4 hours and then it goes back to being slow. I play online games like CSGO and DOTA 2 but when playing my ping is upwards of 300ms and spikes to over 2000ms while other players get an average of 50-100ms. When running a ping test to google.co.za I get an average of +-400ms, running a traceroute gets me the same result. I've run multiple software to see if there is something hogging the internet in the background but have found nothing, I've even disabled windows update and format and reloaded my computer, disabled steam but still the problem persists. I work at a computer shop so I've switched my router out with a TP ling Archer D9 to check if it changes anything but still get the same result. I've switched out my adsl and even phone cables but still no change. One of the consultants said that they found a fault on our line and would dispatch a technician in the next 3-4 days and that was Wednesday last week and I've heard nothing back. Re: Slow Internet speed

hi @IntenetUser007 hope you came right. you'll need to make sure you line is testing fine, and that there's no congestion for your exchange. you do this buy calling 101210, or cantacting Telkm on their solcial platforms. see link below. also, if it's not the line, it could be your internet account. you should send an email to support@telkom.co.za so they can investigate. include all your speed tests and monthly usage.

Re: Slow Internet speed

Hi @Angelface,

I had similar issue after a speed upgrade . Could be worth a try to call 10210 tech dept. for a 'port reset'.  Then if no joy email the details with your fault log ref to support@telkom.co.za. That helped me.

Hope you come right.

Re: Slow Internet speed

I have the same problem as well. I have the 4Mbps uncapped internet. When I check my speed on speedtest it's on 3.89Mbps. But I start downloading the speed slows down to 1.78Mbps. I've already logged in the fault. I hope to hear from the technician during this week because this is frustrating.

Re: Slow Internet speed

I recently got the uncapped ADSL 4meg deal of ther month for January 2018.

the speeds that I am getting is no where near 4m/s. Download speed is at 1.8m/s and upload is around 0.4m/s.

for this past month, since the installation, it has just been complete and utter frustration...

I have visited the Telkom shop, where I signed up...they did a software upgrade on my router but advised that my line needs to be checked out...

I have logged a fault for my line but am yet to receive any further correspondance.

I am paying for a 4meg line...I know that it will not be 4meg but I at least expect something closer to what I am getting now...

I heard from one of my IT friends, that Telkom takes away bandwidth in certain areas, then routes it to the so called 'Rich people' because they were not happy about being throttled...
