On Wednesday 6th January 2016, Netflix, the streaming TV service, announced that they are expanding to a further 130 countries. The great news is that South Africa is amongst those countries, and I know a lot of people who have been eagerly awaiting their arrival. No longer will you need to register using any alternative methods....
The cost for subscriptions are dollar based and start at $7.99 for a standard membership. For that, you can stream on 1 device at Standard Definition. For an extra $2 you can stream in full HD on 2 devices, and for those who sport a new 4K TV, a subscription that will allow you to stream in 4K resolution will set you back $11.99. You will be able to stream on 4 devices (but will need quite a speedy connection). Let's hope the rand doesn't depreciate to much.
What is nice, is that you can sign up for a free 1 month trial so that you can test it out. In terms of data usage, 1 hour of streaming at SD can use about 1Gb of data, and up to 3Gb per hour for a full HD stream, so make sure you have plenty of data. There is no contract and subscriptions run month to month, so you are able to cancel at any time.
