I can connect to any site (except Google) when typing in a direct URL from all my PC's and laptops connected to my ADSL Dlink wireless modem.
Very occasionally I can connect but most times I get this response when making an internet query or connecting to a site which uses Google:
This site can’t be reached
www.google.co.za refused to connect.
Unable to connect
Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at www.google.com.
On the same machines using a CellC USB data modem I HAVE NO PROBLEM.
I have made 4 calls to Telkom broadband help and none can assist. I have had my port reset but that did not help.

Hi @rayva and Welcome to the Telkom Community forum ;-) ,
Can you check while on the ADSL what DNS IPs are set?
Cliick start > Run > cmd > ipconfig /all
The output will show what is on there. Simply highlight everything with your mouse and hit enter to copy the contents. Paste it in your reply here.
You may ommit your name if you want :-) .

Hi sorry to jump in on this thread, i am also having the same issue. typing anything on the browser works sometimes and sometimes not.
Most of the time it fails with "ERR_name_not _resolved please check your internet, router, wifi".
I did an ifconfif -a on Mac see result below:

Had similar issues a while back but it was temporary - just started working again.
If you're still battling it might help to clear history cache & cookies or try another DNS server - check out this community post : https://community.telkom.co.za/t5/ADSL-VDSL-Fibre/DNS-Lookup-Failures/td-p/12602
Hope this helps .

Yep.. If it starts up again just try Google's open DNS for a while.
Thanks for feedback in technical terms I actually understand - ' threw a wobbler ' ha - cheers .

ISP DNS servers can be fickle beasts - not only Telkom’s !
Changing DNS server may lessen the instances of your browser displaying error pages, but will not help if there’s another problem (such as line stability). What is the error message when a website won’t load ?

Thanks, but it's definitely an issue specific to Telkom. Never experienced
it before, living in the UK for a decade with various internet
providers, South America for a while or South Africa with providers other
than Telkom. Telkom don't seem to care if their service is unreliable and
clunky - another example is that Telkom Mobile numbers are not able to send
or receive SMS messages to numbers outside SA. Telkom know but don't care.
Probably got what I deserve in signing up with Telkom for internet and
In the meantime, I've changed the DNS settings to google and will hope for
the best. It's also not an intermittent issue - the issue is intermittent
internet, but the intermittent internet is constant!
The messsage I receive is generally - "This site can't be reached" - IP address could not be found - ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED

Yep... spot on. I only meant local ISPs - family in UK have no DNS issues.
Had various teething issues after adsl to fibre migration ( also Telkom contract). Can be extremely frustrating if anything goes wrong but mine's been completely stable for six months since problems were resolved.
Hope Google DNS stablises your connection permanently .
Good luck !
