I have two Telkom sim contracts for the past 13 months, unfortunately, I lost my job and have no income. I requested to cancel the contract and change me to prepaid. A consultant phoned me and told me I would still be liable to pay R800 cancellation fee per sim card. Surely this is not legal. I have canceled due to unemployment why must I be penalised further with additional penalties and end up being blacklisted further.

Kindly read terms of service, it's required that one settle the remainder of the contract months unless you had insurance to cover unemployment etc.. this is sad.
