Mobile contract replacement offers

Good Day, does anyone know how the replacement offers work? I upgraded recently and unfortunately a month later, fell victim to theft and am now without a device and having to still pay for the device on contract as, due to stupidity of not taking insurance immediately, I am not covered. I have been informed that I may go into store with my ID and I will then be able to get a new device on the current contract and pay this new monthly installment and ofcourse still pay for the stolen device.
