ADSL/LTE swap-out

OK. We have had plenty of mressages from people who are unhappy with their LTE installed as an ADSL replacement. I am certainly one of them. I would love to hear from just one person who is actually happy with the overall perfomrance of their LTE router. Please let us know.

Hi @alantbrown

 

Working in the field of IT, I may have a little more insight into what you are experiencing.

 

If I may take the liberty of explaining, wired connections are always preferred and more stable than wireless connections with more or less wireless noise.

 

In example, with ADSL you are likely to get nearly full speed for what it is rated at. While wireless you can get anything from 1Meg up to 55Meg depending on time of day and signal strength.

 

Your first option would be to check the stats on your router and if needed install an external antenna and point in the direction of the closest tower.

 

Telkom isnt always the one to blame when there are so many environmental factors playing a role for instance, modem placement, tree overgrowth.

 

If you take the necessary steps for process of elimination you can get a decent signal all day around.

I appreciate your inputs.

 

What bothers me however is that at times I get download rates of 4Mb/s (I have a 4Mb/s contract) and almost without exception this dwindles to sub 1Mb/s rates at night.  (I have just done a speed test right now and measure 0.4Mb/s download and 0.1Mb/s upload.). This would suggest to me that the environmental factors can be mostly ruled out and one starts wondering about network overload issues? The incoming signal strength is invariably 3 bars.

 

I had another session with the Telkom call centre today (who are usually extremely willing and helpful) and was told that my positional co-ordinates were incorrectly entered. This will apparently be corrected today or tomorrow and we will then re-evaluate the situation. I do not understand the ramifications of these co-ordinates but wait in expectation.

 

As a final comment however, if Telkom replace a reliable ADSL line on their own initiative with an alternative solution, I would expect similar results. As a bare minimum, I would expect them to explain possible issues such as you have pointed out.

No Idea what the co-ords have to do with your coverage - that is total hogwash. Your coverage is determined by your location of your router.

 

I had an Uncapped 10 MEG ADSL line, they migrated me to LTE, now they sending me these SMS's in my router.

 

They purposes throttling the service and expect the following people to buy data bundles
