LTE weird delay problem

Hello to All

I have joined this community in hopes of some enlightenment! To the point though, I signed up for Telkom LTE some 2 years ago (close enough) and have had no problem with my service. Shocking I know, considering the ISP involved. That aside recently I have been having an issue with ping/latency, having never had a problem in over 18 months I am concerned. Most days it is fine through business hours, then in the evening I get latencies of 250 to 300 ms locally. Having experience with tech, the first thing I did was to run a -ping test to old faithful /8.8.8.8. There too I got HUGE pings, so I ran a -tracert to Google again. All the pings are 100% within normal range, all but one. So I checked the IP and found that it is a cell tower out in the middle of the Karoo!!!!! I ran traces to SAIX, Mweb and even telkom.co.za. All the traces went to this tower. The tower is owned by Telkom, as it is named in the -tracert. I am concered as to why I am being bounced all the way out there, when there are more than enough towers between Durban and Joberg? Why would I need to be routed through too a tower  out there that more than likely is not LTE equiped. If you would like I can show you pings during office hours and after, I will include the trace routes if you so desire. But from my perspective routing someone in this manner is just bad for business. Any extra info would be great, and help me to learn something I guess.

Re: LTE weird delay problem

I too have the same problem, spoke to a guy on "tech support" he does not even know what ping or traceroot is. saddest day of my life, how can someone be on tech support with ADSL and mobile internet and not even know what these basic things are?

BTW regarding the real issue, no downloads or any other programs running that might even the slightest affect my network or internet speed.

I'm IT tech so i use these on a daily basis my ping was fine for online gaming to europe (between 200 - 300) which is standard for what im playing, but now it has moved up to 650+ suddenly.

Look at number 7 on the traceroot below , it shoots up as soon as it hits telkoms DNS, so obviously thats where the problem lies.

Here is my traceroot to 8.8.8 ( google DNS):

1 2 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.1.1
2 * * * Request timed out.
3 62 ms 68 ms 69 ms 172.17.1.13
4 125 ms 59 ms 50 ms 192.168.102.3
5 56 ms 39 ms 39 ms 172.17.1.17
6 105 ms 69 ms 58 ms 172.16.1.205
7 523 ms 338 ms 409 ms 8ta-150-190-01.telkomadsl.co.za [41.150.190.1]
8 783 ms * 549 ms tpr-ip-hsll-1-wan.telkom-ipnet.co.za [196.25.216.125]
9 153 ms 140 ms 148 ms rrba-ip-lir-1-gig-5-0-0.telkom-ipnet.co.za [196.43.52.38]
10 541 ms 459 ms 478 ms 72.14.212.1
11 137 ms 137 ms 149 ms 72.14.239.33
12 525 ms 499 ms 479 ms google-public-dns-a.google.com [8.8.8.8]

Re: LTE weird delay problem

I have exactly the same problem.

During the day everyting is fine, but after about 17:00 ping shoots up to 700 and 800ms.  My singal strength is full and download / upload speeds not effected that much, but ping is terrible and online gaming impossible.

Was your issue solved?
