hauwei B315 slow connection

Hi guys I just want to know something I have a hauwei b315 router and all was working fine I had a nice download speed and all that then my router broke I took it in for repairs after that everything was just wrong when I log into 192.168.8.1 I can't find the setup for Wi-Fi anymore not like the first time I had my router.I can only use WLAN which is not ok for me because it shows that I am on a 4G NETWORK so as everyone know 4G is fast then I done a speed test and on the results it showed that my download speed is 2mbs which is very slow for me because normally I did get 20mbs with my first router.I called in to Telkom and I was told that they will open a case but that was two weeks ago still no result. So my question is,is it the router or is it the connection the router name is hauwei B315-936.😞😞

Re: hauwei B315 slow connection

@mervin34, its hard to say. it sounds like you saying the router interface changed? Perhaps they did a firmware update? Have you tested the SIM in a phone and done similar tests? If problem persists, maybe take the router back again

Re: hauwei B315 slow connection

@thesuspect thanks i will try that today I did call in to Telkom again and I did get a nother case number the consultant that I spoke to yesterday said that the technical department can tell me what the problem can be he said that they will maybe come out and sort the problem out so I will just have to wait for them to get back to me.

Re: hauwei B315 slow connection

@thesuspect I have tried what and it's still the same I did even try a nother router and it's still the same I did try a hauwei b593 router and the speed is still the same so i guess that it is the internet connection in our area.I did think maybe it's because the router shows that it's connected to 4G but our area has no 4 G coverage so I don't know now because now the internet speed is on 1mgbs

Re: hauwei B315 slow connection

  1. @mervin34 you not connecting on 4G. That is what I see from your speed tests. Under client info it shows telkom internet that shows its connecting on 3g. If it was 4G it would show telkom sa limited.

Check mine

Re: hauwei B315 slow connection

Beware using the B315 router

There definitely is a problem with the B315 router. I am using them at a number of clients and in reception different areas.

After many tickets and much complaining Telkom finally sent a technician from a consulting company. (Do work for Huawei.)

He said that there are two frequecies that are being used on 4G and that the router was picking up an incorrect one.  (Just like there are 2 frequecies for 702 radio and you choose the one that works the best)

He was to report his findings back to Telkom and assured me that they would contact me within a week to rectify the problem.

Ha Ha Ha...What a joke..Telkom never came back to me and on 3 other reported occasions just closed the ticket as having been resolved.

Today I got a new B315 router for a client (Telkom LTE package) and tested it against a Huawei B593 LTE router.

Look at the difference in results when testing to a Telkom server in Johannesburg using Speedtest.net

Huawei B593  (Signal strength 2) Ping 19 ms Download 34.9 Mbit/s Upload 1.20 Mbit/s (Time of testing 12am When very little traffic)

Huawei B315 (Signal strength 3) Ping 19 ms Download 1.56 Mbit/s Upload 3.19 Mbit/s (Time of testing 12am When very little traffic)

(Same location)

My complaint to Telkom fall on deaf ears...

As the B315 seems to be the only router that they are offering I am not sure what the answers are.

I just wish that someone from Telkom would listen to our complaints and fix the problem or is this a deliberate attempt to curtail bandwith useage.

I am going to try and get a firmware upgrade from Huawei and see if that changes anything.

Re: hauwei B315 slow connection

I hear you, Same issues here. I had (have) a B 593. Quite old now, Went for an upgrade to a 100 +100 Contract and got a newer B 315 modem.

I thought, OK, newer must be better. No way. The thing was super slow. Tried all I knew. I am in IT. I gave up after two frustrating weeks and put my B 593 back. I get around 70 DL and 14 upload. Ping about 14.

I tried doing a Firmware upgrade tonight, there is a 2015 firmware patch available vs. the 2013 that is in now. It failes to update every rime. Me thinks stinking Telkom blocked the firmware update somehow. Suck to be me. But, I will keep my B 593. Way better and more configutation options that the B 315

Re: hauwei B315 slow connection

It looks like we are all victims of the Huawei B315, I myself is connecting to 4G and sometimes my speedtest.net does net even open the page to obtain the speed results. I have spoken to Telkom so many time with no results. I have even opened a HelloPeter post. Look: https://www.hellopeter.com/telkom/reviews/telkom-uncapped-lte-at-0-3mbps-2292823

Re: hauwei B315 slow connection

Hi @Malanve@mervin34@Antcslte12@GrahamW@Specialist

When Telkom launched LTE in 2012, we used the 2300Mhz band to offer service. It is not the common band used worldwide and as such, not all devices supported it. Last year we started refarming our 1800Mhz band for use with LTE. This is more suited to mobile devices and has less bandwidth available. Some of the routers used could now pick up 4G but on the slower 1800Mhz band rather than the 2300Mhz band that has more bandwidth available. Unfortunately these routers only allowed you to select between 3G and 4G.

We are currently rolling out firmware udates to our LTE routers that includes the Huawei B315 router. These updates will allow you to manually select the frequency band (either 2300 or 1800Mhz). It might take until the end of August 2017 to complete all updates.

See this MyBroadband article for further background.
