Is it possible to do away with our traditional landline (and the lne rental), but retain the number on our OpenServe (Afrihost) Fibre line/

Yes it's possible -first confirm that fibre is available at your address (coverage map below), then contact your current ISP & Telkom for guidance on your options for migration to fibre.
Best to do some ISP research before you decide - careful timing is usually needed for seamless adsl transition to fibre , especially if your Telkom line is managed by another iSP. Your ISP asks Telkom to transfer your adsl line to a holding pool for activation once installation complete.

We’ve been very happy with our Telkom Home Unlimited fibre package (inc. line , new devices , uncapped internet, etc ) since we migrated from adsl last year.
